Hello! I am an artist who recently moved from New England to San Diego, California. I love bright watercolor paint and bold ink line work. Capturing the people and places around me in my sketchbook is a necessity; to me, it helps that memory root in deeper than taking a photograph. When it comes to client work, I am committed to expressing the ideas in your head and words, into imagery that affects you emotionally and captivates all future viewers.
Even more about me...
I grew up speaking Spanish in New York, and am a first generation American to Dominican and Peruvian parents. In kindergarten and elementary school, I found it difficult to communicate with the English speaking kids around me, so during free time, I kept to myself and drew pictures of jungles and tigers. Soon kids began gathering around me to watch me draw and make requests. This made me really happy and I spent all my time drawing stuff and giving it away.
In middle school I spent a semester with my family in Peru, and went to Catholic School with my cousins and super loved my life, but when I came back to New York, I felt incredibly isolated and depressed. High School is basically a blur of death metal music and bad decisions and even worse attempts at graffiti.
I studied illustration at the University of Hartford in Connecticut, (and a semester in Florence, Italy [yay!] ) where I met and moved in with my boyfriend at the time. He was really rad and also studied illustration, but (not so) secretly was obsessed with sculpture, so every semester we took extra classes in the 3D department learning to weld, woodwork and cast iron. I also stacked my course list with Women's and Gender Studies classes because I felt I was actually learning information and skills there that would help me connect with others and better understand my own experience.
Since graduation, I've illustrated 2 published books, opened an Etsy shop and self published my own book. Oh, and that boyfriend and I have gotten married, road tripped across the USA, move to Massachusetts, traveled for a month in Japan and adopted a dog from Louisiana. I also got my yoga teaching certification on the 10 year anniversary of my first yoga class. I've been teaching 6am hot yoga for 3 years now, and have led classes at festivals, parks and high schools!
Currently, I am working on a second book for SDP Publishing, hanging a show of my portrait paintings at a Brazilian Coffee Shop and meeting up with friends to learn Acro Yoga.
